From Pembroke To Deloitte - Graduate Profiles

What does your area do?
Primarily, my department concentrates on working with underperforming companies. We advise and support clients who require financial and operational restructuring. At times a company cannot be rescued by restructuring, and in such instances, we can advise and assist businesses that are either insolvent or close to insolvency. In the past year, I have been worked on many trading administration assignments; in an administration, the directors of the company are stripped of their responsibilities, and the Deloitte administration team act as agents of the company, reviewing all trading transactions with a view of improving the financial position, and ultimately selling the company as a going concern. The variety of this type of work, and the different situations that you come across, makes this type of work very appealing.

Why Deloitte? In the year after leaving Sixth Form, I joined Deloitte as a Scholar, working for 8 months in audit in Manchester. I then went to university but maintained a strong relationship with Deloitte, assisting with graduate recruitment events at university and completing several weeks work during vacations. My scholar experience emphasised that Deloitte was the firm I wanted to work for after graduating. I had worked in both the Manchester and Reading offices and had thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of Deloitte life. Everyone I had met had been very friendly and in both offices I had always been very much part of a team. Deloitte has an excellent attitude to training, encouraging you to develop your soft skills and business knowledge throughout your career. Due to the large graduate intake each year, Deloitte has a lot of young professionals, prepared to work hard, but also socialise hard as well! Keen to obtain experience outside of audit, I took a graduate role in T&RS. I didn’t even consider any other firms when considering which graduate job to take; Deloitte was my first and only choice!
