Fundraising

One of the principle aims of "The Friends" is to raise money to support the current members of the boat club. The Club relies on funds from college, sponsors, entrepreneurial activity and "The Friends" for both it's day to day operation and for funding major capital expenditures such as boats, blades, gym equipment and launches.

Almost all of members subscription fee's go straight towards the boat club, where it's expenditure is carefully monitored by a steering committee with the college, club and Friends all represented. Since 2000 we have purchased a set of blades for the women, a coxed four for the club, paid for half of a training eight (the Robert Stevens) for the men, and our latest purchases in 2005 were "Samuel Johnson" a coxed four and "The Friends of PCBC" a Stamfli 8 for the Women's 1st crew.

Our next major purchase:
The Men's first are in need of a new boat and the Women new blades in order to aid them in their assault on the headship in 2008. Going in to Summer VIIIs second and third on the river respectively we hope that this equipment will give them the best possible chance for regaining the historic double headship, whilst simultaneously allowing better quality kit to filter down the club to the 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th boats.

How you can help:
There are three ways that you can help continue the fine tradition of success at Pembroke College Boat Club.

1) By becoming a member of "The Friends"
It really is that simple. Subscription fee's will contribute significantly to all capital purchases required by the club, and the continuity a low yearly subscription provides allows the club to plan expenditures properly.

2) Making a one off donation
If you would like to make a donation specific to either of our current fundraising efforts, please get in touch, we can then discuss the specifics of any donation.

3) Getting involved
One off financial contributions to large expenditures are always welcome and greatfully received however we recognise that not all contributions need be financial. "The Friends" are looking for "Year Group Captains" to help promote membership of "The Friends". This role involves taking charge of driving up membership amongst the alumni in your year, and helping put members in touch with one another. If you are interested in such a role, please get in touch.
