About
The Friends of PCBC
"The Friends" is the alumni society for those involved in rowing during their time at Pembroke College, and was set up with three main aims:
1) To support PCBC financially, 2) To keep alumni up to date on progress at PCBC, 3) To help alumni maintain and generate new contacts within the PCBC community.
What do "The Friends" do...
Support the club financially: Since 2000 we have purchased a Stamfli racing eight and set of blades for the women, a coxed four for the club, and paid for half of a training eight (the Robert Stevens) for the men. We have also made ad hoc payments to cover expenses the club incurs, such as paying for coaches to transport the rowers to external regattas. This support is crucial for the club to continue enjoying the success it has seen in the past few years.

Keep alumni up to date: Two colour newsletters a year are sent out, after Torpids and the Boat Races, and after Summer Eights. These carry news from all the crews competing, and various individuals within the club. The newsletters are very popular, and we regularly receive positive feedback about them.
Maintain social connections: Last, but by no means least, we aim to keep up the very best traditions of PCBC socialising amongst its old members. We organise two events each year: a drinks event in London in the autumn, and an event on the Saturday evening after Eights in Oxford. In October 2003 we held a very successful dinner at Pembroke to celebrate the double headship, which was attended by well over 100 people, and the party we held after Eights in Oxford City Hall was attended by 480 current and old members. |

For all those that enjoyed their time rowing at Pembroke, the Friends represents an excellent way to both stay in touch with old friends, keep up to date with the latest events and results whilst also directly supporting the boat club.
We do ask for a small contribution from our members but we do not have a minimum amount. As a guide we suggest just £2/month or £25/year. We welcome all contributions, and if you feel able to give more than that, it would be most welcome.

The master names "Samual Johnson" and "The Friends of Pembroke College BC" - a training 4+ a women's top boat purchased by the friends.
